What is Bring Your Parents to Work Day?

Bring Your Parents to Work Day is a wonderful opportunity for families to step foot inside their child(ren)’s classroom and see what a Montessori work cycle looks like! Each child will have a few lessons to “teach” their parents. As we gear up for Spring Conferences, we love inviting parents into the classrooms to get a better understanding of all the amazing work their children are doing – the beauty of a Montessori classroom is difficult to express in words, and it’s so much better to see it for yourself.

When?

Thursday 03/02 from 8:30 am to 11:15 am

Parents can sign up for one of three 45-minute sessions:

8:30 – 9:15       |        9:30 – 10:15       |       10:30 – 11:15

Where?

Your child’s Primary classroom.

What to Expect

Are you ready to GET TO WORK with your child?  We are beyond excited to invite all the Primary parents to join us for “Bring Your Parents to Work Day!” The children work so hard all year long, and are excited to show off their classrooms and academic progress. There will be three available sign-up sessions to choose from.  These three sessions will run as follows: 8:30-9:15, 9:30-10:15, 10:30-11:15. During these sessions, you will get a small glimpse into the work cycle and all the beautiful work your child is doing. The children whose parents are not in each session will be on the playground, while their peers work.

For the sessions that begin at 9:30 and 10:30, parents can get their child from the playground and bring them into the classroom to begin their work cycle. For the sessions that end at 9:15 and 10:15, parents can help their children get ready to go outside, and drop them off to the playground so that goodbyes are easier.

Please talk to your child about your upcoming visit. We ask that you help explain to them that you will be visiting their classroom for a short time, and then they will stay in school and you will go back to your work. We want them to be as prepared as possible for having to separate from parents that day!  We will be re-iterating this expectation as these visits approach. Please understand that tears are normal upon separation, and that your child will be okay! You are also welcome to take your child home for the day after your visit.

Tips for Your Visit

It is also helpful to know a few key phrases that we use in the classroom, so that you can incorporate yourselves as seamlessly as possible. The materials are called “works” and the children can choose work that they have had lessons on. While children do explore and manipulate these items, we “work” with the materials, not “play!” We use quiet voices when we are inside the classroom, to help minimize distractions for other children, and promote ideal environments for concentration and focus.  We also avoid saying “good job.” Instead we say, “Thank you for listening,” “Wow!  You worked hard on that,” or “Look, you did it! That must feel great!” Sometimes a simple nod of approval goes a long way! While this is by no means a comprehensive list of “Montessori-speak,” it is a good foundation for coming into the classrooms.

We look forward to seeing everyone at this fun event!
